PDP condemns sacking of over 2000 teachers in Kaduna

By EDDY OCHIGBO, Kaduna –

The campaign organization of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna state, Hon Isa Ashiru has condemned the recent sacking of over two thousand teachers in the state by Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

Tge PDP also challenged the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC), Senator Uba Sani to make his position known on the unfortunate development.

The campaign organisation, in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mallam Yakubu Lere el-Saed on Tuesday, wondered why despite the harsh economic climate in the state, the state government has sustained its policy of sacking teachers with alacrity over competency test – a move which even led to the dismissal of the President of Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Audu Amba, for refusing to sit for the test.

While revealing that the state is planning to carry out demolition exercise at Gwari Market in Rigasa and Saminaka Market in Lere Local Government Area, el-Saed called on residents and indigenes of Kaduna to ensure that they secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) “to vote out the repressive government of the APC”.

“Senator Uba Sani’s silence’s over this irrational decision to sack teachers has sent an open signal that he would continue with the current policies of Governor el-Rufai. It is disheartening to note that rather than improve primary education in the state, the policy is adversely affecting the sector. Available statistics show  that the rating of Kaduna state in terms of performance in first school leaving certificate has never been as bad as it is now – during the government of  el-Rufai.

“We therefore wish to sympathise with the victims of this exercise and indeed the good people of Kaduna state in particular and NUT in general over the destruction of primary education in the state and  assure that our candidate, Hon Isa Ashiru would reverse this policy and resuscitate education in the state, if given the mandate by the electorate in 2023.

“Again, we wish to call on the affected teachers to take heart and leave everything to God. Consequently, we must work together to get rid of this APC government in the state come 2023”, el-Saed stated.

It would be recalled that the Kaduna state government in 2018, sacked 21,780 teachers who failed the competency test and replaced them with 25,000 newly recruited ones; and in December 2021, the state sacked 233 teachers over alleged possession of fake certificates.
