House of Representatives is preparing to submit a detailed report on the root causes of the Plateau crisis to President Bola Tinubu, according to the Chairman of the House Ad Hoc Committee on the Plateau Crisis, Rep. Wale Ahmed (APC–Lagos).
Ahmed disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday during the committee’s courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
He explained that the legislative inquiry aims to uncover the underlying issues behind the prolonged violence in Plateau State, which has claimed many lives and destroyed property over the years.
According to Ahmed, the committee has engaged a broad range of stakeholders—including former Governor Joshua Dariye, civil society groups, traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and security agencies—to gather diverse perspectives on the crisis.
“Every stakeholder we have met has shared their perspectives, and every day we are becoming more enlightened about the true situation in Plateau,” Ahmed said. “We have written to over 300 individuals and organisations, received responses, and collected several memoranda. In the end, we will collate the findings, identify recurring issues, and compile common suggestions and solutions.”
He added that once completed, the report would first be presented to the House before being submitted to President Tinubu. “As Commander-in-Chief, we know he is deeply committed to ensuring lasting peace across Nigeria, particularly in Plateau State,” he said.
In his response, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda commended the committee’s work, noting that the crisis has severely affected social and economic activities in Plateau State.
“The persistent violence has cost us lives, property, and even the confidence of both local and international communities,” Yilwatda lamented. “Economic activities on the Plateau have slowed significantly because of the recurring unrest.”
He expressed optimism that the National Assembly’s intervention would lead to meaningful and lasting solutions. “We are truly encouraged that the legislature has taken this bold step to identify the real causes of the crisis and chart a path toward peace,” he said.
