Water scarcity: Zulum orders quick restoration of water supply to Maiduguri City

Worried by problems of water shortage in some areas, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has visited some communities in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere LGA, during which he ordered the State Ministry of Water Resources to ensure quick restoration of water supply to the affected communities.

Places visited by the Governor Zulum included: Old Maiduguri, Kawar Maila and Gidan Yashi.

The governor interacted with residents in all the communities to get first-hand information and gave assurances of his administration’s commitment to addressing the difficulty faced by residents.

The governor, who explained that the water scarcity was caused by the global energy crisis, urged residents to understand the complexities associated with the phenomenon.

“I am aware of the water scarcity faced across the metropolis and environs. I want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to come up with quick solutions to the problems. We will be on our toes until these issues are addressed, insha’Allah”, Zulum said.

Meanwhile, in the course of assessing water facilities at Old Maiduguri, Governor Zulum inspected a two-kilometer drainage, aimed at preventing flooding during the upcoming rainy season.

Governor Zulum hinted that his government would soon undertake more flood control projects and make concerted efforts against perennial floods affecting the communities.
