Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s Ramadan Iftar Relief Food Distribution Team has successfully distributed Iftar meals to over 414,000 vulnerable and underprivileged individuals in Maiduguri city and its surrounding areas.
This initiative aims to provide essential support to those in need during the holy month of Ramadan.
This initiative follows the official launch on March 12, 2025, by Governor Zulum, who commenced the daily distribution of Iftar provisions targeting 46,000 vulnerable residents daily.
The Iftar monitoring team, dispatched from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and led by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Lawan Abubakar, conducted thorough inspections of various feeding centres within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
The team’s itinerary include visits to centres in Maisandari C and D, Mafoni, and Bulabulin wards.
During the oversight visit, Alhaji Abubakar expressed his satisfaction with the operations in the Bulabulin wards.
“We are quite impressed with the level of organisation and commitment we have witnessed in the feeding centres within the Bulabulin wards. Their performance is commendable.” Mohammed said
The Permanent Secretary, however, expressed dismay and disappointment over some state of affairs at some centres especially , in Maisandari Center .
Abubakar issued a stern warning while emphasising the need for immediate improvement.
“It is disheartening to observe that certain centres in Maisandari C have fallen short of the expected standards. They must take swift action to rectify the identified shortcomings or risk being delisted from this crucial programme.” Abubakar said
The inspection team comprised key officials from the Ministry, including the Ministerial Secretary, Hassan Abdallah Hassan; the Permanent Secretary-designate; the Director of Finance, Ali Umar (Arrow); and the Director of Religious Affairs, Umar Ali.
Their presence underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the success and integrity of the Iftar food distribution initiative during this holy month of Ramadan.
