The Department of Epidemic Viruses at the Pasteur Institute of Côte d'Ivoire is equipped with a mobile case specially designed to intervene in remote areas in the event of suspicion or threat of epidemic diseases. This tool is essential for a rapid and effective response to health emergencies.
The Department of Epidemic Viruses consists of three main units, each specializing in specific areas:
Vector-Borne Viruses Unit: This unit focuses on viruses transmitted by vectors, such as mosquitoes, which pose a significant risk to public health.
Respiratory Viruses Unit: This unit studies viruses that affect the respiratory system, such as influenza and other respiratory viral infections.
Nervous System Virus Unit: This unit includes two units responsible for polioviruses, both human and environmental.
In addition to these units, there is a Cross-disciplinary Unit
— the Cell Culture Unit, responsible for the production and maintenance of cells used for virus isolation, enabling virus studies and research by isolating and culturing samples in a controlled environment.
