The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has unveiled its 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship candidates for the July 12 Local Government election.
The party presented flags to the candidates at an event held at the Ikoyi office of party chieftain, Chief Bode George.
According to George, the unveiling of the candidates is a testament to the party’s strength and determination to win the election.
“The essence of today is to unveil our candidates in order to convince the electorate that the rumour that PDP has collapsed made by some people is most irresponsible and a total lie,” he said.
The PDP leader expressed confidence in the party’s candidates, urging them to be courageous and vigorous in their campaigns.
“For those of you contesting, be courageous. As you go out to campaign, do not be afraid to tell the electorate the truth. Wrestle for power to take care of the people and not to amass wealth to yourselves,” he advised.
George also emphasized the need for servant-leadership, saying, “You must be servant-leaders, washing the hands and feet of disciples (people) like Jesus did. You are to serve and not to be served.”
He lamented the current economic and security challenges facing the country, urging the government to prioritize the security and welfare of its citizens.
Some of the chairmanship candidates unveiled include Awwal Abiodun (Ibeju-Lekki), Olakunle Okekunle (Ajeromi Ifelodun), Faroq Ijaola (Ifelodun), and Olawale Akanni (Somolu). Others are Babajide Benson (Surulere), Olufemi Martins (Onigbongbo), Onyekanu Nnamdi (Ikeja), and Oluwadare David (Ojodu).
The event was attended by prominent party leaders, including former Deputy Governor Sen. Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, former State PDP Chairman retired Capt. Tunji Shelle, and Dr. Roli Bode-George.
The party leaders expressed optimism that the PDP would perform well in the election, with Chief Onikepo Oshodi saying, “PDP is next in Lagos State. It is time for PDP to lead Lagos and again in Nigeria. We are sure APC will not make it in 2027.”
