Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
By JOHN MKOM, Jalingo –
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally received and cleared him to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling his imminent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during an expanded meeting with Taraba APC youth stakeholders led by Comrade Abubakar Gembo, Kefas revealed that President Tinubu personally welcomed him into the ruling party and handed him over to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
According to the governor, “arrangements are on top gear for the official unveiling of my APC membership in Taraba very soon.”
Gembo, who addressed journalists after the meeting at TY Danjuma House, Asokoro, said the youths expressed excitement over the governor’s planned defection.
“Governor Kefas called us to inform us of his readiness to join our great party, the APC, in Taraba State. He also told us that he had met with President Tinubu, who received him and handed him over to the national chairman of our party,” Gembo said.
He added that the governor assured the youths of inclusion in his administration once he formally joins the APC. “He promised to work closely with us, just as he did while in the PDP. We believe in his leadership,” Gembo stated.
Also speaking, Idris Ayuba, Chairman of the APC Youth Vanguard, Taraba State chapter, confirmed that the governor’s defection process has already been concluded at the national level.
“Governor Kefas’ move to the APC is a done deal. What remains is the formal reception by stakeholders at the ward, local government, and state levels,” Ayuba disclosed.
He urged Taraba youths to rally behind the governor, describing Kefas as a youth-friendly leader whose policies have consistently empowered young people.
Governor Agbu Kefas was elected in 2023 under the platform of the PDP, a party that has dominated Taraba’s political scene since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
