President Tinubu received Fubara at the State House on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed that political peace and stability have returned to the state, following his first official visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa since his reinstatement.
Speaking with State House correspondents on Monday, Fubara stated clearly:
> “Fubara and his principal are working together.”
This was in response to questions about whether the recent reconciliation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike was genuine or merely superficial, according to Channels TV reports.

> “I don’t know what you mean by if this is a paper peace. As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace,” he added.
Fubara, who was suspended from office in March 2025 due to the political crisis that engulfed the state, officially resumed his duties on September 19. His suspension—and that of his deputy and lawmakers—was lifted following the end of a six-month emergency rule imposed by the presidency.
The Governor said his visit was primarily to thank President Tinubu, whom he described as a “father figure,” for his mediation and support during the state’s political turmoil.
> “It’s not much. It’s a father-son discussion—telling him thank you, and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue, for him to guide me properly so we don’t be in any situation of crisis. That’s all,” Fubara said.
Fubara also noted that it was “proper” for him to report back to the President after his return to office.
> “You’re aware that suspension was lifted [at] midnight [on September] 17, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back.”
His visit marks a symbolic reset after months of political tension stemming from his fallout with Wike over control of Rivers State’s political machinery. The conflict had fractured the state assembly and led to Tinubu’s emergency intervention earlier this year.
In a previous statewide broadcast, Fubara had said he remained “eternally grateful” to the President for restoring calm to Rivers.
The visit not only signals a potential turning point in the state’s political landscape but also reinforces Tinubu’s position as a stabilizing force in the federation.
