Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state, armed Policemen on took over the state House of Assembly complex in Benin.
The action may not be unconnected with Wednesday’s impeachment of the Deputy Speaker of the House for pledging loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer in the September 19, 2020 election in the state.
Incumbent governor of the state and flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Obaseki is facing his main challenger, Pastor Ize Iyamu of the APC.
What makes the forthcoming election interesting is the fact that while Obaseki enjoys the incumbency factor, which is very crucial in African politics, Ize Iyame is backed by former chairman of the APC and Obaseki’s estranged political god father, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Obaseki who won his first election on the ticket of the APC, however dumped the party for the PDP a few months ago following his bitter misunderstanding with Oshiomhole and by extension the leadership of the APC.
