Ex-Madagascar President, Ratsiraka dies at 84

Former leader of Madagascar, Didier Ratsiraka, has died on Sunday morning at the age 84.

President Andry Rajoelina who announced his passage on Twitter describes his death as ”lost of an illustrious patriot,”.

He said the cause of the death was not immediately disclosed.

Ratsiraka was in power from 1975 until 1991 and returned for another stint from 1997 to 2002.

He once fled into exile in France in 2002 before returning home in 2013.
