The federal ministry of Environment and Blue Fortune Ltd, on Friday in Abuja, trained officers of the Ministry on modern methods of environment pollution data collection and management.
Permanent Secretary, Mr Abel Enitan said that one of the objectives of the training was to make people understand current knowledge on data pollution collection.
Enitan was represented by Mr Oyewole Ashaolu, Deputy Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health.
“It is important to have data collection on pollution, it will help to educate people and create more awareness.
“We all know the importance of data collection and we all have pollution in our various environment. Pollution comes either by air, land, sea and other valuable means.
“When pollution occurs we need to have a way of managing it, so it is important to have data to enable us educate people on the level of pollution in the country,” he said.
Mr Kenneth Amedu, Principal Partner of Blue Fortune Ltd, said the organisation had discovered that the ministry lacked accurate data on pollution control.
Amedu said that the country was facing climate change crises.
He said that most programmes being implemented barely had data bank and it has been a major challenge to the country.
“It is only when you have data on any project you are executing that you can know the current knowledge of what you are doing, thereby making people to understand exactly what that project is all about.
“We know that it is important to have a data bank of pollution in the country, so we decided to collaborate with the ministry and the ministry accepted my organisation to execute the project.
“I must commend the government through the ministry. It is a welcome development to have the data bank on pollution,’’ Amedu said.
He urged the government to put more effort by collaborating with other relevant stakeholders as the effort would help implement projects effectively.
Amedu also called on stakeholders to support the government by providing relevant knowledge that would enhance the projects. (NAN)
