JAMB reinforces CAPS Mobile App, disowns “Score Upgrade”
By TOM CHIAHEMEN, Abuja –
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has notified candidates that it has reinforced its CAPS mobile app to enable them access the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for all their admission-related issues in the comfort of their homes without visiting any CBT centre or cybercafe.
“All they need to do would be to simply download the JAMB CAPS Mobile App onto their phones,” the Board said in the current edition of JAMBulletin made available to NATIONAL ACCORD on Monday.
It explained that the development was coming in the wake of some institutions which are about to round off their admissions processes.
“Consequently, candidates who are still expecting 2019 admissions from such institutions need not visit any CBT centre or cybercafe to check their admissions status for necessary action,” the Board further said.
On how the candidates are to go about the CAPS app, it said:
“Candidates are to login to the JAMB CAPS Mobile with the phone number they had used for the UTME registration. After login, the candidate will then key in his Registration Number and click on ENTER to get started. A verification process would be carried out on the provided information and if successful, an OTP code would be sent to the provided mobile number. The candidate is to enter the OTP code and click on VERIFY to complete the verification exercise.
“Upon the completion of verification, the candidate would be taken to the requisite admission page which has his/her admissions information to: accept or reject the admissions offer, accept or reject transfer consideration by institutions if any, as well as accept or reject market place consideration by institutions. In addition, the candidate will also see his/her O’level results and other biodata.
“If candidates accept their offers of admission, they are to proceed to register online for the requisite academic session in their institutions of choice. Candidates are advised to take advantage of this Mobile App to check their admissions status as JAMB staff are working from home to ensure that the public is adequately served and all processes are active.”
In a related development, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Board has advised parents, guardians and candidates in particular that there is nothing called “JAMB Score Upgrade.”
“This has never existed and will never be condoned by the Board,” Head of Information and Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said in a statement at the weekend.
He advised Parents/Guardians and Candidates to note that the so-called “Score Upgrade” was simply “a scam perpetrated by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting and gullible candidates, their parents or their guardians as the case may be.”
“Therefore, any Parent/Guardian/Candidate that gets himself/herself involved in such a fraudulent act is doing so at his/her own peril and should be ready to face the full wrath of the Law when caught,” Dr. Benjamin said.
He also noted that in line with the current campaign to stem further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was the need for Nigerians to comply with health, safety and social measures put in place by the Federal and the various State Governments.
