
Manchester City’s defender, Ruben Dias,
The Football Writers Association, FWA has named Manchester City’s defender, Ruben Dias, Footballer of the Year.
The centre-back, who was signed in a £65m deal from Benfica last summer, instantly transformed the champions’ defence as Pep Guardiola’s side reclaimed the Premier league title from Liverpool.
Ruben Dias, 24, steered Manchester City to the Premier League title with his colossal defensive performances which saw him scoop the prestigious individual accolade.
“It is a huge privilege. Obviously I could not have done it without the success of the team,” It reflects all the togetherness we have on the pitch, how we perform and the spirit that is in the team and with these players” Dias stated in an interview with the FWA”. Ruben Dias stated.
He has made 31 top-flight appearances for Pep Guardiola’s triumphant side after joining for a club-record £65million from Benfica last September.
Dias performed excellently in the Premier League this season and has helped City achieve the best defensive record with just 32 goals conceded in 37 games.
