By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
A wanted notorious kidnapping kingpin, known as Yusuf Muhammed, has been arrested along with 21 others in Orokam, Ogbadibo Local Area of Benue State.
The notorious kidnapper was identified by his victims particularly those he had tortured in captivity.
The Chairman of Ogbadibo, Sunday Ajunwa, who confirmed the arrest, said Yusuf has been responsible for several kidnappings in the area and the combined team of Police from Makurdi and Enugu as well as the efforts of the vigilante group necessitated his arrest.
He informed that the kidnapper attempted to flee into the bush but the youths chased and caught him.
According to him, “It is true that Yusuf has been arrested by the combine team of Police from Makurdi and Enugu as well as the vigilante in the area. He attempted to run but the youths pursued and caught him.
The Chairman disclosed that the kidnapper made confessional statement as to how he tortured his victims in captivity but insisted that he was in Police custody along with 21 others and also noted that Yusuf was alleged to be a Fulani man.
According to the Chairman “the security situation in Orokam is now stable though the curfew from 6pm to 6am is still enforced. But am thinking of lifting it after meeting with security agencies and stakeholders”.
The arrest of the notorious kidnapper as observed has been made possible when kidnapping and other forms of criminal activities in the area were on the increase and it propelled the Local Government Council Chairman, Sunday Ajunwa to strengthen security in the area and also to meet with the Benue State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies on the matter.
It was gathered that people of the community were celebrating the arrest of the kidnapper and regarded it as a significant breakthrough in the community.
But while some members of the community were celebrating the arrest of the wanted criminal other victims expressed mixed reactions over his arrest saying that Yusuf may be released from police detention for monetary consideration.
They therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP to look into this particular arrest with keen interest.
