Oyo State Police Command has rescued 19 Ghanaian victims of alleged human trafficking through a targeted operation.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, revealed that the victims, comprising 14 men and five women, were lured to Nigeria with false promises of job opportunities.
Osifeso said, “The victims had been lured to Nigeria with false promises of job opportunities, and they fell prey to a manipulative scheme by unknown perpetrators, who exploited them for financial gains.”
The victims provided critical information about their ordeals, which is currently aiding the ongoing investigations.
The police executed a search warrant at a building in the Kajorepo area of Ibadan, where the victims were being held.
Osifeso said, “The Oyo State Police Command remains dedicated to uncovering the identities of those responsible for this alarming situation.”
The victims have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigations and possible reunification with their loved ones.
Osifeso urged members of the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities directly to the authorities.
The police command’s efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals are ongoing.
