Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort as part of plans to undertake a comprehensive renovation and reposition the state’s flagship hospitality facility for improved performance.
The decision, contained in a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Anieti Udofia, said the shutdown is intended to pave the way for extensive rehabilitation works and the introduction of a new operational structure.
According to the statement, the move is designed to strengthen the resort’s competitiveness while ensuring long-term sustainability and profitability.
> “As part of the ongoing comprehensive rehabilitation and renewal of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, the facility will temporarily suspend operations to allow for the speedy completion of renovation works and the implementation of a new operational framework.”
The government also announced that, effective August 22, 2026, the management of Ibom Hospitality Limited will be transferred to ALEPH Hospitality, an internationally recognised hospitality management company.
The statement explained that the appointment is expected to introduce global best practices, improve service delivery, enhance operational efficiency and boost the commercial performance of the state’s hospitality assets.
> “Effective August 22, 2026, the management of Ibom Hospitality Limited will be entrusted to ALEPH Hospitality, an internationally recognised hospitality management company.
> “This move is aimed at introducing global best practices, professional expertise, improved service standards, operational efficiency, enhanced commercial performance, and greater value to the Akwa Ibom State Government.”
The government noted that the decision comes after more than 18 years of uninterrupted operations without major transformation, describing it as part of a long-term strategy to modernise the state’s hospitality sector.
Guests with existing or planned bookings will be assisted in securing accommodation at other Ibom hotel facilities during the renovation period.
On the welfare of workers, the state government assured employees that the transition would not result in mass job losses.
> “The Government of Akwa Ibom State places the highest priority on the welfare of all employees throughout this transition period and wishes to clearly state that no staff member currently employed by Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort will be laid off as a result of this transition, except those who may voluntarily choose not to continue under the new operational arrangement or those who may not have the right skill sets required by the new management team.”
It added that affected staff would be considered for opportunities within the state’s hospitality network, including possible placements at the ARISE Palm Resort when it becomes operational, while the Human Resources team and the new managers would oversee staff deployment, training and onboarding.
The statement further disclosed that some employees would remain at the resort throughout the closure to support renovation activities, maintain the facility and safeguard the property.
ALEPH Hospitality, it added, will also engage staff members on the new operational framework and provide the orientation and training required ahead of the resort’s reopening.
The government clarified that while the hotel will be closed, the golf course will remain open.
> “For our golf players, the golf course has been maintained by the Government, and it is in good condition; hence, it will remain open to players and visitors while the renovation of the hotel lasts.”
Expressing appreciation to the resort’s workforce, the government described the transition as the beginning of a new phase for the state’s tourism industry.
> “Government appreciates the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of all staff members who have contributed to the growth and reputation of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort.”
The statement added:
> “This transition represents a new chapter focused on innovation, improved service delivery, sustainable growth, and renewed opportunities.
> “The Government remains committed to building a world-class hospitality sector that creates employment, attracts investment, promotes tourism, and strengthens Akwa Ibom State’s position as a premier tourism and business destination.”
