Akwa Ibom State Government has commenced the distribution of N75,000 conditional cash transfer grants to 56,402 vulnerable households across the state under the Renewed Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme.
The funds have been loaded into 56,402 debit cards, which will be distributed to beneficiaries in the 31 local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Emem Ibanga, disclosed this during a meeting in Uyo held to fine-tune arrangements for the June/July 2026 distribution exercise.
According to her, discussions during the meeting focused on ensuring a smooth and transparent rollout of the programme across the state.
“During the meeting, we reviewed preparations for the exercise and discussed strategies for ensuring smooth implementation across the 31 local government areas of the State,” she stated.
Ibanga explained that the current phase of the programme is a continuation of payments that began last year. She noted that the beneficiaries are existing enrollees selected from the State Social Register under the Federal Government-backed intervention scheme.
The commissioner stressed the importance of collaboration among local government chairmen, programme coordinators and other stakeholders to guarantee the success of the exercise.
“The distribution exercise will commence on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, beginning with Abak Local Government Area, after the training of desk officers and other personnel involved in the exercise,” she said.
She also commended TeasyPay Financial Services Limited, the financial service provider engaged by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the programme.
According to her, TeasyPay, a licensed mobile money operator that has been providing financial services since 2012, has confirmed the delivery of all 56,402 debit cards meant for registered beneficiaries ahead of the distribution.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Ibanga said the programme reflects the commitment of Governor Umo Eno’s administration to supporting vulnerable residents across the state.
“These interventions reflect the commitment of Governor Umo Eno, to the welfare of vulnerable citizens in a deliberate move to restoring dignity, expanding opportunities and improving the quality of life of those in need.
“Consequently, programmes such as these are implemented with utmost care to ensure that support reaches deserving beneficiaries across the State.”
The Renewed Conditional Cash Transfer Programme is a Federal Government social intervention supported by the World Bank and designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable and low-income households across Nigeria.
