Davido: ‘Anybody supporting APC in Osun is an enemy of progress’

Popular Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred political debate ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election after declaring that anyone supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is “an enemy of progress.”

The award-winning singer made the remark in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, just days before voters head to the polls.

> “Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress! Lessons will be learnt this weekend 😀,” Davido wrote.

The post quickly generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on the singer’s political stance.

Davido has consistently expressed support for the administration of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term in office. Adeleke is eligible for re-election in Saturday’s governorship poll.

The election comes amid heightened political tension in the state. In recent weeks, reports of pre-election violence have emerged, with clashes between political supporters raising concerns among residents and observers. Several supporters of the Accord Party have reportedly been killed in separate incidents, prompting renewed calls for peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

Security agencies have repeatedly assured residents of adequate security arrangements, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to abide by the provisions of the Electoral Act and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The August 15 governorship election is expected to be closely watched, as voters across Osun State decide whether Governor Adeleke will secure another term in office.
