No fewer than three people have reportedly died, just as 200 houses have been destroyed and about 3,000 hectares of farmlands were washed away by flood in Adamami village in Shira local government area of Bauchi state.

However, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), however said that only two people were killed in the incident.

NATIONAL ACCORD had reported about a week ago that three people died and no fewer than 150 houses destroyed by floods in Shira, Warji and Ningi local government areas of Bauchi state.

This was disclosed by Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly during their sitting on Tuesday.

Our Correspondent gathered that in this last incident, residents of Adamami village had a sleepless night on Monday while trying to save women and children from been trapped in the debris of the already collapsed mud buildings.

The flood, it was also learnt, occurred as a result of downpour which lasted for almost 14 hours between Sunday evening and Monday thereby resulting in the serious flooding which completely submerged the entire village.

Aminu Bala, a resident of the village, who spoke to our Correspondent in a telephone interview on Tuesday said that the flood caused a lot of damages ranging from collapse of more than 85% of the mostly mud houses in the village, loss of farmlands measuring more than 3000 hectares, apart from the three people that reportedly died as a result of the flood.

He lamented that Adamami and other communities have been in this situation for almost two weeks now with no assistance coming from the local or state government authorities.

“All we are appealing for is to have a heavy duty machine like an excavator to come and dig a way for the water to go through,  but surprisingly all the appeals lodged to the appropriate Authorities has not been treated, all our cries but to no Avail.

“We are appealing to the general public and well meaning Nigerians to put our people in prayer and support them in anyway they can because we need such now than ever before,” Bala said.

The Director Relief and Rescue of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Kabiru Kobi, who stated in a text message to our Correspondent that only two people were killed in the incident, added that the Agency has written to the government for immediate relief to those affected.
