The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has registered 179 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 161,074.
As at Tuesday (16th, March 2021), the public health agency also recorded two (2) COVID-19-related deaths, leaving the total fatalities in Nigeria to 2,018 deaths.
The NCDC made this know in an update via its official Twitter handle @NCDCgov.
It added that with the new cases, the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country had risen to 161,074 confirmed cases, out of which 146,072 had been discharged.
The public health agency also noted that the new infections were reported in 19 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The 179 new cases are reported from 19 states- Lagos (47), Kaduna (21), Rivers (18), Akwa Ibom (14), FCT (11), Edo (10), Cross River (9), Ogun (9), Nasarawa (6), Ebonyi (5), Ekiti (5), Zamfara (5), Delta (4), Kano (4), Osun (4), Plateau (3), Abia (2), Gombe (1) and Sokoto (1)
It has also recorded 153 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.
The NCDC said that there were now 12,984 active cases across the country in the last 24 hours and it has so far carried out sample test on 1,684,305 persons since the outbreak of the infection last year.
It also said that a multi-sector national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, is coordinating response activities Nationwide.
