Gbajabiamila calls for the prosecution of culprits in Oyo State’s violence

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent violence in Oyo state.

Mr Gbajabiamila, also urged the police to allow for prosecution and punishment of those who instigated and participated in the killings and destruction of properties.

The Speaker who made the call during plenary, condemned the crises and assured that the house will work within its powers to prevent re-occurrence across the country.

He appealed to those who have large followership to be mindful of what they communicate to their followers.

Mr Gbajabiamila said the house supported President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort of forming a committee that will engage all stakeholders to enact a resolution aimed at building peace.

The Speaker revealed that the house will work together to examine the cultural, religious and localized conflicts over land and history that are often at the root of internal security challenges.

He added that the House Committees on Police Affairs and Justice have been mandated to communicate the house position to the Inspector General of Police.
