Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to tackle the state’s housing deficit through innovative partnerships, inclusive planning, and targeted social housing initiatives aimed at uplifting the poor and vulnerable.
Speaking at the commissioning of 100 free houses for widows under the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) Social Housing Project at Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area, on Monday, Governor Sani said the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to providing safe and affordable housing for Kaduna residents.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Ward Development Plan, which seeks to empower at least 1,500 people across all 8,809 wards in the country, describing it as “unprecedented in Nigeria’s history” and a transformative approach that recognizes the unique needs of each community.
The governor disclosed that he would soon convene a town hall meeting with elected officials and stakeholders across Kaduna State to identify and address the specific development priorities of each community.
“Access to safe, affordable, and secure housing is the foundation of human dignity. We have been partnering with local and international investors to frontally address our housing deficit.” he said.
Governor Sani highlighted several ongoing and completed projects, including the Qatar Sannabil Housing Project for families affected by banditry, a collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and Qatar Charity.
He also cited the Nuru Suraj Ungwan Dosa New Extension Layout spanning 3,319 hectares and Urban Shelter’s 200-hectare housing project at Millennium City, Kaduna.
The governor added that agencies such as the Nigerian Air Force, Customs Service, NDLEA, and Federal Housing Authority had embarked on mass housing developments in the state due to the enabling environment and attractive investment incentives provided by his administration.
“We recently organized a hugely successful International Housing Exhibition, which offered a platform for stakeholders to share ideas, explore technologies, and proffer practical solutions to northern Nigeria’s housing challenges,” he added.
Chairman of Family Homes Funds Limited, Mr. Ademola Adebise, described the Rigachikun project as a symbol of “renewed hope and restored dignity,” particularly for the 100 widows who benefited.
He explained that the initiative represents a new model of social housing delivery that integrates home ownership with skills development, livelihood support, and environmentally responsible building practices.
“These homes are energy-efficient, incorporating solar power and sustainable materials. Through the Expanded Polystyrene System (EPS) technology, we achieved faster, more affordable, and climate-friendly housing,” Adebise said.
He added that each beneficiary received training to support small business startups and agricultural ventures within the estate’s communal market space.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, commended the collaboration among the federal, state, and local governments, as well as the Family Homes Funds and community-based cooperatives, in realizing the project.
Bagudu praised Governor Uba Sani for his commitment to people-centered governance, noting that his relentless follow-up ensured the successful completion and free allocation of the houses to widows.
“I am not surprised that this first phase is happening in Kaduna,” Bagudu said. “Governor Uba Sani is a leader who knocks on every door and ensures that no one rests until things are done for the benefit of his people.”
