Black Stars of Ghana
Ghana’s Black Stars have been handed a heavyweight challenge on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage, following a tough Group L draw that pits them against England, Croatia and Panama.
The draw, conducted at the iconic Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., unveiled the group pairings for all nine African teams heading to the expanded 48-nation tournament. It is the first major marker on the journey to the Mundial, which will run from June 11 to July 18 across Canada, the United States and Mexico.
With the new World Cup format featuring 12 groups of four teams each, only the top two sides – along with the eight best third-placed teams – will progress to the knockout rounds, raising the stakes for every match.
Ghana, known for its giant-killing pedigree on the global stage, will have to summon its very best to navigate a group featuring England’s Premier League-powered squad, World Cup finalists Croatia, and a fast-improving Panama side.
Across the African contingent, several teams also face exciting and challenging matchups:
Group A: Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, European Play-off D
Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Haiti
Group E: Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Curaçao
Group F: Netherlands, Japan, Tunisia, European Play-off B
Group G: Belgium, Iran, Egypt, New Zealand
Group H: Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde
Group I: France, Senegal, Norway, FIFA Playoff Tournament 2
Group J: Argentina, Austria, Algeria, Jordan
Group L: England, Croatia, Panama, Ghana
With the countdown now officially underway, football fans across Africa and beyond are bracing for an electrifying World Cup campaign—one where Ghana and the continent’s other representatives will aim to make history on North American soil.
